guidelines on scavenging for garage sale treasures. They will then receive a few
loonies and be sent out to scour garage sales with the mission of finding
interesting materials and objects with which to create assemblages or sculptures
back at the studio. Come as a family or bring a friend to get a reduced price!

IT'S ALL ABOUT YOU!
Sign up for this 4-week course and create a series of unconventional self-portraits
that explore who you are—not how you look. No need to know how to draw...this
is about introspection and experimentation! We will be using a variety of mixed
media techniques to create our self-portraits. Teens and adults welcome!
This course takes place over a series of 4 consecutive Tuesday evenings from
7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The cost for all 4 sessions is $140 CDN or $130 CDN if you

MUCKING WITH MEDIA
This is a course for adults who want to play like kids. Our mornings will be packed
full of fun and creative play using a bunch of media: acrylics, pastels, plaster,
wire, paper, found objects, and more. No art experience necessary! Be prepared
to roll up your sleeves to explore that creative and uncensored side buried deep
within.
This course takes place over a series of 4 consecutive Thursday mornings from
9:30 a.m. to noon. The cost for all 4 sessions is $140 CDN or $130 CDN if you sign

HANDMADE BOOKS
In this full-day session we will be making several handmade books of various
constructions including side-bound books and accordion books. Learn the basics
of book-making and leave with some lovely finished products of your own
creation. Personalize your books and use them as blank notebooks or fill them
with photographs or personal artwork!
This Saturday session is 6 hours, from 10:00 a.m.to 4:00 p.m. The cost is $85 CDN

Artist Trading Cards or ATCs are 2½’’ x 3½’’ original art cards made to be
exchanged. Join the hundreds of others worldwide who trade ATCs. Come and
find out all about it, create your own miniature works of art to trade, and learn
some fun mixed media techniques at the same time. It’s addictive! And if you'd
like (optional)...set aside the following Saturday afternoon for a trip to
Dunvegan, Ontario (about an hour from Hudson) to trade your newly-made cards!

DEFINING YOURSELF AS AN ARTIST
This 8-week course is designed for the emerging or established artist who is
struggling to find or re-discover their own artistic vision and style. Topics will
include: investigation of the creative process; techniques or approaches to
stimulate creativity; how to unblock; choosing media which matches your vision;
how to use influences while maintaining your own style; developing personal
symbols; creating an artist statement; and much more. Each session will involve
discussion, as well as practical visual and writing activities, and will involve
homework between sessions. Participants must bring a spiral-bound sketchbook.
This course takes place over a series of 8 consecutive Thursday evenings from
7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The cost for all 8 sessions is $280 CDN or $260 CDN if you

FIVE FUN FANTASTIC FRIDAY FIELD TRIPS
Affectionately known as Fx5, the format is a field trip to an interesting location
in the morning followed by some related art-making in the afternoon. To give you
an idea…we may visit an art gallery and then go back to the studio to make art
inspired by the show we just saw; we may go to a junkyard to collect some
treasures and then return to make assemblages; we may go to a paper-making
facility and return to make some collages with the paper we obtained; we may go
for a walk in the forest and make some Andy Goldsworthy-inspired art statements
which we will photograph and then release to the elements; or we may do
something entirely different but just as fascinating.
Starting on August 21st, this course takes place every 3 weeks over a period of 5
Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The cost for all 5 sessions is $350 CDN or
$325 CDN if you sign up with a friend. Materials are included in the cost.
Enrolment is limited to 8 participants.

MASK-MAKING
Working in partners, we will form life masks on one another using plaster
bandages applied to the face, paying special attention to the concepts of trust,
communication, and personal space. In the second session we will spend some
time engaged in some self-inquiry and then adorn our masks accordingly. You may
be surprised at what you learn about yourself!
This course takes place on consecutive Monday and Tuesday evenings from 7:00
p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The cost for both sessions is $75 CDN or $70 CDN if you sign up
with a friend. Materials are included in the cost. Enrolment is limited to 8
participants.

PARTIAL TO PAPER
We ordinarily think of paper as a support for artistic works but in this series of 6
workshops we will use paper as the medium to create unusual 2- and 3-
dimensional pieces which highlight the beauty and versatility of paper as art
form. Try your hand at paper casting, create paper sculpture, collage with
Japanese papers, sew on paper, and learn many ways to manipulate paper. By the
end of this workshop series you will positively be partial to paper!
This course takes place over a series of 6 consecutive Thursday evenings from
7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The cost for all 6 sessions is $210 CDN or $195 CDN if you

I don’t have a printing press at art vein studio but a good impression can
certainly be made with lots of simple printing techniques that will help you
create some truly original works of art. Try your hand at various types of relief
